Your birth was so early,
On the day you arrived.
Everyone in the family,
Thanked God you survived.
Weighing only three and a half lbs,
You were so fragile and small.
But your will to keep fighting,
Gave hope to us all.
Mommy & daddy would come to visit,
Sometimes twice A day.
The first thing they would ask is
"How much does he weigh?"
Many weeks went by
As your body fought stronger.
Our thoughts and prayers were
You wouldn't be in the hospital much longer.
On that cold day in January
You came home for a day.
But the monitors kept beeping
So your homecoming was delayed.
You cant imagine the joy
You've brought to our lives.
Even those stinky,poopy diapers
Or the times when you cry.
We haven't quite figured out
What you like to do.
We've taken you shopping on weekends
And to a garage sale or two.
On a sunny Saturday in May
We visited the zoo.
We've gone to parks and lakes
And busy restaurants, too.
Morning is your best time,
You are so happy-go-lucky.
When afternoon rolls around
You're not feeling so plucky
Momma is constantly with you
All day and all night.
She know how to comfort you
And make things alright.
I know you love your daddy
so very, very much
When he comes through those doors
Your reach for his touch.
Austin, I love you
The rest of the family does, too
My wish today is
Happy First Birthday to you.
