Wanting
by Stefan du Bois
Across a turbulent ocean of land and sea,
In the dark shadows of contemptible wolves, I've waited for you.
Fog swirling, mist blinding, your apparition brief, turns to the eastern sea,
engulfing completely, holds you distant.
Dante's Inferno inscription lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'entrate looms foretelling over that distant barrier.
Turning, I walk into my sullen sleep, wanting not of it,
desiring only this treasure, this summer joy, this celestial beauty vanishing deep into that swirling, relentless mist.
Time passes, waiting, watching the movement of hands sweeping numbers, waiting...

Her voice quickens embers simmering beneath patient harboring ashes. Her gentle breath melts away this cerecloth shroud releasing the warmth of cinders now blazing into flames.
A time of laughter, a season of summer in the mist of a cold winter.
Tales unveiled, stories shared, photograph picture memories when life was cold and turned hearts to stone.

Touching softly words of yearning, desiring, shadows through journeys peak our fear. Words left unspoken, crash to the ground, seeping swiftly into the sand.
Placing bricks in a wall, erecting fortresses against our will.

Hope of the coming dawn, as a distant sea carries her wraith over snow-capped mountains, through barren prairies, and scorching deserts ablaze until I stand in her sun.
Let your warmth envelope me, touch and trace my lips. Feel my tremor, let me consume you in my heat, hear the rush of wind escape every pore of my flesh, shouting your name.

Along the ocean's edge on our golden shore, in the rhythm of a sway, two merge into one, imploding fortresses and crushing fears, we wash them away forever into our blue western sea.
