Last thoughts
by Steven Beesley
Last thoughts:

As I lay so weak and unable to speak,
all alone in the hospital ward.
My doctor came and spoke to me,
he told me of my fifty percent chance to live.
The need for surgery to be done so very quickly.

When he next came to see, a surgeon by his side to explain what I had in store.
Some forms to sign, I felt I was signing my life away.
The Chaplin summoned to talk and comfort me.

He asked if I was at peace with God and if I was prepared for the worst.
He prayed for me and hoped that I had the strength and will to survive.
I was prepared, prepared to die.

But all the time I could only think of one thing and that was you.
Even when I lay on the cold operation table, my thoughts were of you.
I knew there and then that should I not survive, my love for you would still live on.

You were the one that made me fight, to make me carry on.
I know that my love for you will never perish and will survive.
No matter what trials, whatever be my fate.
I will always love you, you are what makes me feel so alive.
