A Soldiers Love |
by Elizabeth |
It was just another day
As ordinary as the next
Until she opened the letter
And began to read the text
Her tears stained the paper
With every word that she read
“How could this be” she thought
Could he really be dead?
Her hands covered her head
As she slumped down in her chair
She was frozen there with fear
To move, she did not dare
Minutes felt like hours,
And soon turned into says
But somehow she still felt him there
Like there was something he wanted to say
She got a phone call from his work
To see if his stuff she would go through
But to her this was the hardest task
She would ever have to do
A couple days went by
Before she visited that desk
She kept telling herself
That this was for the best
She found letters that she sent him
And some old photographs
Of all the places they went
And all their priceless laughs
After holding the picture to her chest
Remembering her angel from above
She found a letter in a drawer
Addressed, ‘to my love’
Her hands began to shake
As she read the words
It as his goodbye letter
Incase something bad occurred
It said ‘to my love,
You may but understand
Why I had to leave you
Al alone in this land
But do not shed a tear for me
I died for a good cause
For I was defending my county
All of its laws
I know you feel alone
But I am still there
Watching over you
With all my love and care
I know the years ahead
Will bring heartache and pain
But do not worry,
I’ll be the sunshine through your rain
Even though I’m gone
And can’t be there today
My feelings for you grow stronger
With each passing day”
As she left his office building
With the letter in her hands
She looked up and smiled
Because she now understands
God took her husband from her
And now he’s up above,
But one thing he can’t take away
Is a soldiers love.
