Take a walk with me,
If you will.
To the top of a tower,
On top of a hill.
It's a cold December night,
But don't worry.
You won't need a jacket,
Not for this journey.
As you look up to the see of stars,
I ask you to relax.
And without warning we begin to drift.
Above the tower we go,
Floating high in the atmosphere,
This is just the beginning I want you to know.
Slowly the terrain fades from view.
All we see is darkness,
Aside from stars and the distant valley lights.
We start to soar now,
Like a couple of hurricane kites.
Before long the earth grows small,
The moon big,
Even though seconds ago the moon was a sliver,
Now its full, dark, and much bigger.
The sight now is breathtaking,
But nothing compared to the time we are making.
Planets come and go,
Our speed is infinitely accelerating.
We continue this for hours,
The hours become days,
Eventually time has no meaning.
Our hill becomes a distant memory,
And as abruptly as we began, we stop.
Our journey had one purpose you see,
If you could comprehend that distance,
Then maybe you could begin to understand true beauty,
The beauty I have seen,
And after letting you go, life loses all meaning.
In your mind's eye imagine what I am feeling.
Pain does not describe this,
Only a sense of loss and accomplishment.
So I guess all i have left are memories,
Memories and one thing left to say to you.
So here it is,
Thank you. |
