I freed three trees
by Harriet Oliver
Once I stood a full hour to three
under the shade of a lonely tree
wondering why I precedes thee
when the thought prevailed suddenly
that there's distinction 'tween he&she
and the opposite of captivity is to free
since as the case may be
a fish is unescapably
confined to the sea
as romance is oft he & she
and even ministry can be merry
in a happy county
as you look forward to see
another country
not arrested, but free
unaware of leprosy,
ignorant of agony
walking on foot, not on knee,
invisibly,
remorsefully,
arbitrarily,
nought to see.
