First Kiss
by Ann Marie
The reflection of the sun on the new fallen snow gives the impression of a garden filled with millions of diamonds. You take my hand to help steady me as we make our way through the deep drifts. The winter birds are singing merrily, planting thoughts of spring in my mind.

The earth and air echo a stillness, as if the heavy snowfall has silenced them. It is so peaceful. We wade through the sea of whiteness until we come to a wooded area. The nakedness of the trees has been covered by rich robes of white, like a bride adorned for her groom. The snow here is only ankle deep, so walking is easier, but you continue to hold my hand. The vibes I feel moving from your gloved hand to mine are just as strong as if our bare hands were clasped.

I look past your beautiful eyes and into your soul to see if you are ready for fun. The sparkle that meets me assures me that you are, so I let go of your hand and run away. "Catch me if you can," I call playfully. A smile brightens your face as you accept the challenge and begin to chase. With strides twice as long as mine, you easily catch up. You grab my arm and spin me around. I look up into your face, my eyes full of love. I put my hands on your chest and rise to my toes, inviting you to lean over and kiss me. As your hold on me relaxes, and your lips draw near, my eyes flutter shut. My lips part slightly and I feel your breath on my face just before your lips brush lightly across mine.
