The Reality of Valentine's |
by Nate Phillips |
In the park a warm embrace
Beneath a canopy of Pines
Longing hearts reflect the face
Enchanted by St. Valentine's
Distant lovers clutching phones
Winter storms delay airlines
A wide expanse between time zones
The desperate souls of Valentine's
Reluctant lovers share a booth
Just thrice a year they meet to dine
Recounting frictions of their youth
The sour taste of Valentine's
Gay lovers share a moonlit night
As they uncork a vintage wine
A scornful ex ignites a fight
The shattered hearts of Valentine's
An aging couple still in love
They wed this day in forty-nine
Just gazing at the stars above
The ambience of Valentine's
So many girls with song and dance
Anticipate this day to shine
But some reject the forced romance
Of Ken and Barbie Valentine's |
