Daddy's Poem |
by Ann Marie |
I look back at all the pictures of you holding an infant me
The pride shines in your eyes there for all to see
Now you?re building a snow fort for me and my big sis
You?ve builded us a castle--there?s not one better than this
We?re working in the field and I?ve cut my leg bad
Up in your arms and to the house wondering if there?s stitches to be had
Grandma?s sick and Mom is gone I?m the lady of the house for now
I do my best to keep you fed and you choke it down somehow
The terrible teens are upon us rebellion rears its ugly head
You let me know who?s boss so down the right path I?ll be led
High school is over at last the tassel is finally turned
The day has now arrived for which I?ve steadily yearned
I?m living with three strangers their faults could fill a tome
I miss you more than I thought, Daddy, please bring me home!
I?ve fallen in love again but this time it?s the real thing
So take me down the aisle where I?ll get my wedding ring
A couple of times I?ve been frightened that God was taking you away
So I resigned myself to His will but I?m so glad He let you stay
I?ve never known life without you you?re an important part of my world
Daddy, I want you to know that I?m still your little girl
