Foolish Pride |
by Wanda |
One look into his soft brown eyes
I completely gave my heart away.
He wasn’t like most other guys
I knew I’d marry him someday.
They tried so hard to tear us apart
They said our love just wasn’t right.
I loved him with all my heart
And to be with him, I would fight.
So then they let the rumors fly
Of how our love had grown so cold
And he was going to leave me now
At least that’s what they told.
So along came my foolish pride
To save me from the pain
I said I wouldn’t be his bride
Then I never saw him again.
Thirty years have passed since then
Two husbands come and gone
I still can’t help remember when
Our love was oh so strong.
Now it’s me against the world
You know the world will always win
But in my dreams I’m still his girl
Though I know I never will be again.
I guess I’ve cried a million tears
And I’m not done crying yet
Although it has been many years
His sweet love I can’t forget.
So take a hint from my sad song
Kick foolish pride right out the door.
Admit the fact when you are wrong
Don’t let pride take the one you adore.
