I walked along the endless field,
on a damp and dreary day.
Cold, lost, and lonely, and on my own,
beneath the frightening skies of gray.
With tear-filled eyes and a heavy heart,
I searched for happiness within my soul.
When I looked up to speak with God,
I saw a lush, green, grassy, knoll.
I climbed and climbed to reach the spot,
where I knew happiness would live.
Here I could find someone to love,
for I had so very much to give.
While on top of the grassy knoll,
a remarkable sight came into view.
A four leaf clover grew between my feet,
it's tattered leaves all covered with dew.
I looked beyond it's ragged leaves,
and saw it's beauty and it's charm.
I wished to take it home with me,
and keep it safe from harm.
I took the plant by it's tiny stem,
and gently plucked it from the ground.
I placed it tenderly into my pocket,
and headed back towards town.
My heart was filled with happiness,
my luck had removed my pitiful frown.
But when I took this wonder from my pocket,
it's tiny leaves had all turned brown.
I cried and cried a million tears,
for what I'd found was lost anew.
Every day now I take a trip,
to where the lucky clover grew. |
