They say he did a lion slay |
by Harriet Oliver |
Is there truth in the say
implied in all averred reverred
that he did a lion slay
after it devoured an avery bird?
Was he really away needless to say
in arrears of upper area near
where the lionesses lay as they may
preyfully thin though seemingly sincere?
Could he sense recognaisance
when to all his feat he did declare
reversing an act of vengeance
when shooting into the air?
Could he keep the lion at bay
while being sadder&wiser, yet forlorn
when his countenance lay
in this act having met with scorn?
Did that lion haunt him at night
until he rose in the morn
gaining delight as noble knight
for all his trophy to adorn?
